All City Championship Recap

BMX skid on Friday night pre-party

BMX shooting sparks at the All City Pre-Party 07/25/2008 -Photo Datsun_Wong

First of all, a big thank you to Jeff for putting together a flawless race. This was a long hard slog with a good number of twists and turns. You could tell it was well thought out and well planned. Over 125 people competed in the 2008 All City Championship. Keep an eye on the Bike Jerks blog for the official results and updates.

The Friday night pre-party was insane. My best guess is some 200-250 people gathered behind One on One to pre-register and compete in the evenings events. My only question is, where the fuck did all these people go come Saturday? I hope you have a lame excuse that makes you feel better about showing up for a party and ditching out on the fucking fun ass race the next day.

I spent the evening at Lake Harriet working the Time Trial stop. We sent riders around Lake Harriet (~2.8 miles) in competition for top male and female spot.

Fred and I reckon the average time for males to be aproximately 10:30 minutes and the average time for females to be 11:30.

Ben Jammin and Rita Erin W absolutely crushed the competition. Ben won the men’s TT title with a time of 7:30 7:50! And Erin W won the women’s TT crown with a time of 9:20.

Shona(sp?) from Winnepeg won the DFL prize for slowest time around Lake Harriet. She asked if it was possible to get lost before leaving. I said just go around the lake and stay on Lake Harriet Parkway. One hour and ten minutes later she returned, after having rode around all the lakes, with a WTF?! note from her two exasparated riding partners. Kmo and Misty waited over 45 minutes for her to return and even made two extra trips around the lake looking for their fellow Canadian.

I had the pleasure of getting to know these three better later that evening and the next day at bike polo and they are a class act. I’m so happy that they came all the way to check out Minneapolis’ bike community.

As far as I can remember the men’s podium was Mike Brauer, Trevor, and Ben Jammin in that order. The women’s podium was Jana, Steph, and Rita also in that order. Time trial champs were Ben Jammin and Rita. Top out of town men’s/women’s went to Kmo and Misty. Masters men’s and women’s first place went to Martin (one time messenger and father of three) and Jana.

The top three men were separated by only 2 minutes.

A special hats off to my good friend Jana for clinching her first major alleycat win! This time out, you were unstoppable! Hope your new Steamroller leads you on many more adventures.

The tension was thick as Brad Wilson from Capricorn pulled the winner of a custom bike from the hat. The top three mens, womens, and the two out of town places were entered in the raffle. Rita, competing in her first race, was drawn and will be receiving a custom built Capricorn bicycle. A huge thanks to Brad for donating a prize that goes above and beyond the call of duty. Say thank you with some dollars.

All these results are from memory and in no way official. Can’t wait to see the full field of results. Anyone who completed this 40 mile course deserves your admiration.

/Edit Well like I said these were unofficial results. I got the women’s TT incorrect. Erin W was the winner and not Rita as I had previously stated. Sorry ladies. Check out the official results at the Bike Jerks Blog.

All City Championship weekend ahoy!

July 22nd, 2008 by Sveden

All City 2008 Poster

The All City Championship is this weekend. I’m getting excited. As excited as I can be after the nonstop whirlwind that has been the last three weeks of my life.

That being said there is no such thing as too many bike events. This race is going to be huge. Two days of events culminating in the second largest Alleycat this city will see all year. I will be running the Lake Harriet Time Trial stop. Registration starts at 4pm with the race ending at 9pm at Bedlam Theater.

Friday night will be a fun night of exploring downtown by bike.  Match Sprints, Distance Skid, Style Skids and Best Trick competitions will fill the night with drunken cheers. Meet up at 9pm at One on One for pre-reg and these competitions.

Check out the All City 2008 blog for all the official info including all 10 of the manned stops before the race as well as the insanely long list of fucking sick prizes.

BFF Scavenger Race 2008 Results

July 17th, 2008 by Sveden

BFF Results

Thanks to the hundred plus that came out to the Bicycle Film Festival Scavenger Race 2008! An extra special thanks to all of you that bit the bullet and made this your first bicycle race.

You guys did a great job untangling the clues and came up with some super creative answers.

Congrats to the top three teams. First place had to be decided by the tie-breaker photo. In the end, team Rand Mcnalleycats triumphed. They beat every team by at least 15 minutes coming in 57 minutes before the end of the race. Its no wonder they did so well with the Stupor Bowl XI Speed Champ and the Winner of All City 2006-2007 on the team.

Congrats to Susan, Landon, Bjorn, Kat and Marianne.

In the coming days I will try and post the complete manifest so you can see what you missed.

Star Wars: The Alleycat - Hipsters on Hoth

July 16th, 2008 by Sveden

Hipsters on Hoth

Well just as one race is finished, I go and get myself involved in another one. Sean and I are giant Star Wars nerds and decided to just go for it and plan a Star Wars themed alleycat.

Stay tuned for more info.
