Sad news on this bright and sunny day after the rain. A young man died in surgery after being hit by a vehicle near 5th and Nicollet on 09/23/2008.
A recent graduate of South High this young man was presumably heading towards class at MCTC on Wednesday morning. No local news sources are covering this incident as far as I know. More info as it develops at Mpls Bike Love.
My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
Edit: I had the wrong URL linked for about 45 minutes.
Had a blast on Friday afternoon turning a parking spot on S. 9th St near Target into a public green space.
And at the end of the day Karl and I got to take home 10 rolls of free sod to place in an awkward fashion in our yard.
Check out the full set of my photos here. Shanai, organizer extraordinaire of our parking space, also has a set here.

Saw this over on Boing Boing dot net.
The likelihood that an individual cyclist will be struck by a motorist falls with increasing rate of bicycling in a community.
Also from Boing Boing a 1946 Disney PSA on menustration, which has little to do with biking except for this frame starting at 7:01.
I wasn’t going to write anything about Jimmy Nisser but this paragraph moved me deeply.
Though doctors said it would be a miracle if he could walk as a boy, he grew into a man who took great pleasure in riding his fleet of Raleigh bicycles, even leaving his newest one in the garage Thursday morning in favor of his “rain bike,” his sister said.
This here, this here was a real person. A kindred spirit. A peer.
