MS 150 Weekend

June 10th, 2008 by Sveden

Team 1FS (1 Fucking Speed) successfully completed the Larkin Hoffman MS 150 on Sunday. Friday to Sunday Jana, Phil, Karl, Phillip and I rode approximately 210 miles (338 Km). Which included 106 miles (170 Km) on Sunday. I felt like 18 million dollars after riding 100+ miles.

A major tip of the hat to Mark, Nick, and Kevin who rode well over 300 miles over the weekend. Including 150 miles on Friday! Instead of taking the bus to Proctor they rode the entire route in one day.

A full set of photos from the weekend are available over in my photostream.

When we got back we still had to haul our gear from our drop off point at Phillip’s house. Karl decided he’d put four people’s gear on his Big Dummy for shits and giggles. Here’s a video highlighting the voluminous load.

Obama in St. Paul

June 4th, 2008 by Sveden

As you have probably have heard somewhere, or another Barack Obama was in St. Paul last night. I didn’t attend the speech myself, but got a report of “It was nuts” from my roommate, Karl.

I wonder what the Secret Service was thinking as Karl cut a path through the throng on his Big Dummy. I wonder if anyone poked around the giant saddle bags while he was inside to make sure there wasn’t anything subversive hidden in those pockets.

I guess Obama is the only candidate to specifically pander to Cyclists, so he’s got that going for him. Anyway, I wouldn’t exactly call myself a Obama supporter, and I sure as hell ain’t a McCain supporter, but I found these comments from Warren Ellis to be extremely spot-on.

Here is but an excerpt. Read the rest at his blog.

Obamania

When, on my mailing list some months ago, I expressed a preference for Barack Obama in the Democratic selection process, I received an email which read, ”Oh, I see. You’d support a black man but not a white woman.”

That kind of fucked-up paralogia seemed to infect the entire Clinton campaign, reaching its perverse crescendo when she trumpeted her support among uneducated white folks. Her press ops, as one wag pointed out, stopped just short of her being photographed taking a shit in an outhouse.

Big Dummy on the Go

April 9th, 2008 by Sveden

What to do when you buy a new bike and you have to get the old one home? Give your friend with a Surly Big Dummy a call.

Shown in the video and this flickr set is a fixed gear attached to a Yakima channel rack which is attached to Xtra-cycle Wide Loader being transported across the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis.
