Third cyclist in as many weeks killed in accident

September 24th, 2008 by Sveden

Sad news on this bright and sunny day after the rain. A young man died in surgery after being hit by a vehicle near 5th and Nicollet on 09/23/2008.

A recent graduate of South High this young man was presumably heading towards class at MCTC on Wednesday morning. No local news sources are covering this incident as far as I know. More info as it develops at Mpls Bike Love.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Edit: I had the wrong URL linked for about 45 minutes.

National Parking Day 2008 Minneapolis, MN

September 22nd, 2008 by Sveden

Parking Day 2008

Had a blast on Friday afternoon turning a parking spot on S. 9th St near Target into a public green space.

And at the end of the day Karl and I got to take home 10 rolls of free sod to place in an awkward fashion in our yard.

Check out the full set of my photos here. Shanai, organizer extraordinaire of our parking space, also has a set here.

End of long day found on the end of a long load

And at the end of the day Karl and I got to take home 10 rolls of free sod to place in an awkward fashion in our yard. Well Karl got to take it home. I just watched.

Check out the full set of my photos here. Shanai, organizer extraordinaire of our parking space, also has a set here. Photos from the national organization can be seen here.

New Jersey sucks for more than one reason

September 16th, 2008 by Sveden

itod recently went on a 9 day trip with the Props Mega Tour. It sounds like he had a shit ton of fun.

itod\'s wheels

we started in Rochester and ended in New Haven Conn.

Jersey city had no weed.

new haven is rainy and country despite being 1.5 hrs from NYC.

we were almost robbed for our bikes by a band of thugs in the east village of NYC.

no good photos of the riding just stupid shit like the people on the trip and of the surroundings.

the video should be out in november sometime and the magazine article should hit stores around the same time. I have to write somestuff on the trip to go a long with the photos.

we saw vinnie chase from entourage while out riding. no photo.

I filmed half my clips in new haven drunk and high as a kite.

itod

I was noticed and asked for an autograph by a kid in new haven..

I may have broke my wrist.

all but three clips involved a front brake.

we were chased out of the lower east by the cops for siphoning air from a 1-800-matress truck tire into on of my team members bike tire.

the gallon of milk in an hour challenge was failed by a team member.

riding through NYC traffic is the best feeling.

Times square is nuts even at 12:30 am.

the weed I got (from another rider) in NYC was the best I’ve had in years.

saw a light myself on fire show and it was fucking awesome.

New Jersey sucks cause you can’t turn left anywhere.

GPS sucks in NYC.

holland tunnel is 8 bucks to use.

you can only use the metro pass 4 times at a time. (we had 11 people to get on the train)

we lost a team member in NYC for 8 hrs he had no phone and it was his first time in NYC.

cigarettes in NYC are 10 dollars a pack. (american spirits are 11.50)

Obama and McCain were at ground zero when we were there (9/11)

we stayed in the area in Jersey where the sopranos was based.

yes there are still bangs in Jersey.

bars close at 6am for an hour then they’re open again… they lock you in for an hour…

I got lost and so turned around cause there is no reference once in the middle of the city.

you can buy anything you want in China town.

you can go to corner stores at anytime of the day or night and buy a beer.

some of the best vegan food I’ve ever had.

bums are funny… (they tell jokes for money)

noone cares what you do in the streets.

never got kicked out of any spot no matter what time of day it was.

I got that going for me, which is nice

September 15th, 2008 by Sveden

Saw this over on Boing Boing dot net.

The likelihood that an individual cyclist will be struck by a motorist falls with increasing rate of bicycling in a community.

Also from Boing Boing a 1946 Disney PSA on menustration, which has little to do with biking except for this frame starting at 7:01.

Mr. Nisser

September 12th, 2008 by Sveden

I wasn’t going to write anything about Jimmy Nisser but this paragraph moved me deeply.

Though doctors said it would be a miracle if he could walk as a boy, he grew into a man who took great pleasure in riding his fleet of Raleigh bicycles, even leaving his newest one in the garage Thursday morning in favor of his “rain bike,” his sister said.

This here, this here was a real person. A kindred spirit. A peer.
