Saw this over on Boing Boing dot net.
The likelihood that an individual cyclist will be struck by a motorist falls with increasing rate of bicycling in a community.
Also from Boing Boing a 1946 Disney PSA on menustration, which has little to do with biking except for this frame starting at 7:01.

Preregistration for the fucking world’s largest by ladies for ladies alleycat is open! Head on over to the myspace and get your t-shirt size lined up. Its $5 to race and $3 for a shirt if you preregister.
Let me break that down for you. Its only $5 to get yourself eligible for a mountain of prizes and only $3 to get the exact size of t-shirt you want. The shirts are American Apparel and will be printed by MPLS’ own Burlesque Designs. Thats right, a hand silk screened AA shirt for $3. That is the fucking jam.
As if that wasn’t enough, Kayla and Chelsea just announced how some of the grand prizes for Babes in BIkeland II would be given away. First place overall gets a custom Seagull Bag. First place out of town gets a custom bag from girl.bike.dog.
The ultra super kick ass grand prize is a custom steel bike from local frame builder Peacock Groove. This prize will be raffled off to the top 8. Top 5 overall and the top 3 out of town.
If you are on the fence about coming to Minneapolis, consider the chance of winning your own custom made bicycle as incentive. If you need a place to stay or more info, keep tuned to the Mpls Bike Love forum discussion.

Thats one big ass bike. A friend down in Mankato created this with some friends. Took about 4 hours from 1am to 5am.
Each wheel is roughly 63′ across.

The fence is up on one side and almost done on the other. Looks like this could be open as soon as Friday (08/29). A few more photos in my flickr stream.
I’m verbally harsh on mopeds that ride across this PEDESTRIAN bridge but if I see any going down these narrow fenced in bike lanes I am going to freak the fuck out.

You may have noticed the Washington Ave Bridge is closed, sorta. I received this explanation in my inbox on 08/22/2008.
As I type, they are installing fence posts outside the enclosure. I’d assume chain link fence to go between them providing a east and west bike lane on either side of the enclosure. As you can see in the picture. More in my photostream.
Talked with three older gents working for the Hennepin County engineering crew. I asked if this would be done by the time classes start at the U (roughly September 2nd). They said “For sure”
I thanked them for working so quickly on this issue and that we cyclists appreciate it very much. If you see the workers on the bridge as you are cycling by give them a shout of thanks.
Update 08/29/2008.
